Derek K. Baker

With a stellar academic background and expertise in solar energy, Dr Baker has made significant contributions to the field through his extensive research and coordination of various groundbreaking projects.

Dr Baker serves as the coordinator of the EU Horizon Europe SolarHub project, an ambitious initiative that brings together 21 partners actively involved in the Greek and Turkish solar energy ecosystems. Through this leadership role, he has demonstrated a keen ability to foster collaboration and innovation across borders. He successfully led the EU Horizon 2020 (H2020) SolarTwins project, which established strong ties between METU, ODTU-GUNAM, and renowned Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST) research centers CIEMAT-PSA (ES) and DLR (DE). The project concluded on 30 June 2023 and left a lasting impact on the field of solar energy research. He serves as the Principal Investigator for the H2020 GeoSmart Project at METU and for the Horizon Europe CST4ALL project at ODTU-GUNAM.
